Local Heroes
As part of our continuing commitment to the area we serve we decided to search out those unsung heroes that make our communities' lives richer without ever seeking out recognition. We mounted a giant on air search for these people with hundreds of nominations reaching us by the closing date. We whittled these entries down painstakingly to 3 finalists in categories such as “Teacher of the Year”, “Make a Community Difference award” amongst many others. We invited these finalists to join us Huddersfield’s Cedar Court Hotel for a glitzy Hollywood style awards ceremony to honour their achievements. This amazing evening was attended Civic Leaders and a host of other folk from all walks of life in our area.
MacMillan Cancer Support
We have pledged once again to try and help MacMillan cancer Support by trying to join them in raising £100,000 this year. Last years target of £75,000 was well exceeded with over £80,000 raised!
Sport
We are the media partner for Huddersfield Town FC, providing full commentaries on all matches both home and away, league and cup! All the latest news from the terriers and the Huddersfield giants can be found in our ‘Back Page Update’, Monday to Friday at 5.30pm

3.3: Pennine FM – Localism at its very best
The “Easter Egg Tree”
In the run up to Easter 2007 we encouraged our listeners to purchase one extra egg as they shopped to make sure that less fortunate children in our area received an Easter treat!
Local Heroes
Paying homage to the people in our community who make everyday life more special without wanting anything in return was one of the highlights of our broadcasting year. We assembled people from all walks of life to celebrate the best that the Huddersfield district has to offer.
The Grand Summer Tour
Our mission was quite simple: Attend as many events in Kirklees and Calderdale as possible this summer. We set up water stations on hot days! Our presenters worked the crowds and sold cakes at Fetes and Galas…. we have literally proudly been “serving” our area all summer.

Detail
Pennine FM is very much the voice of Huddersfield with an emphasis on community affairs. Speech will not fall below 20% of daytime output. Bulletins with local news will be broadcast at least hourly during daytime, including at least two extended bulletins each weekday. (This requirement may alternatively be met by airing magazine-style programmes combining music and news-based speech over longer periods, provided that in each case speech accounts for not less than one-quarter of the total minutage). Sport is a big part of the station’s remit and will feature heavily (full programmes when appropriate).
Community features (focussing specifically on communities such as Afro/Caribbean or Irish) and daily phone-ins as well as travel, weather, whats-ons will be programmed. Its commitment to the Asian community will include community features and regular programmes (around 90 minutes daily on average) in Hindustani, Urdu or English as appropriate with weekend programmes mainly in Urdu, Punjabi or English. The music will be quality popular songs from the last four decades with no decade dominating the output. Specialist programmes featuring music which clearly complements the main music mix may be aired in non daytime. A networked overnight programme may be aired within local hours between 0100-0600 daily, provided this has live presentation throughout and localised idents/jingles etc. This must originate from a station within the TLRC group.
